I have been without my office since February and I can tell you I am SO ready to have my own space back. When we moved into this house in September 2012, we knew eventually that we would be remodeling my office. But little did we know it would happen much sooner. The windows are old single pane windows and they do not keep this nasty West Texas dirt out. Then the exterior door was not even an exterior door. There was a window unit to help cool and heat but it, too, let in the dirt. I then started to have issues when my dogs came in from the cold…apparently a dog prior to us used the potty in the room. Well, you know how that goes…mine had to mark their territory. I know this sounds totally gross and yes you are completely right. It was so frustrating because mine are house broke so getting them to do what they knew was quite tricky. Once the holidays were over in 2013 and I got through the colds/sinus junk/exhuastion I had in January, we moved on getting the room emptied.
The room is still in progress but getting closer day by day. We are leaving the windows at the moment but we will be sealing them up until we can replace them. We are replacing the door and even the storm door so that should help quite a bit more. Then here is one of the big ones….Eric found absolutely NO insulation in the ceiling so we fixed that problem by blowing in a cellulose insulation. I really hope it helps during the winter when I am layered in clothes and in the summer when I am drenched in sweat. We will also be tiling the floor and then doing some special touches to fit my personality and style. Now, my office (aka sunroom) is in no way my ideal office space due to the lack of wall space for photos, low ceiling etc. I will be doing the best I can to create a better space until I can build my dream one day.
Here are some photos from our house hunt that are honestly horrible depictions of the room. The room is actually bigger than it appears and there are more windows. You will also see that an old outdoor grill is still there (still trying to figure that one out) and the fireplace clean out. It is rather awkward but it is what it is.
What an exciting adventure!! Glad you took “before” pictures, so you can show the “after” ones that’ll blow everyone away! I just know it!!!! Happy decorating!
